80 appeals accepted, 76 rejected, 4 pending on 1st day

Staff Correspondent: The Election Commission (EC) has started hearing the appeals filed against the rejection of nomination papers in the 11th parliamentary election slated for December 30.

The hearing began on Thursday morning and continued till 5:30 pm.

On the first day of hearing, the EC accepted a total of 80 candidatures and rejected 76 out of 160 appeals against returning officers' nomination rejections today. The rest of the appeals have been kept pending.

EC’s Joint Secretary SM Asaduzzaman confirmed this to the media on completion of the hearing for today.

The appeal hearing was held in presence of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda and other Election Commissioners— Mahbub Talukdar, Md Rafiqul Islam, Kabita Khanam and Brigadier General (Retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury.
