9 burnt as gas cylinder blasts in capital

Staff Correspondent: Nine people were burnt in the incident of gas cylinder explosion at Paffin Chinese Restaurant of the capital's Lalbag area on Saturday afternoon.

The victims were identified as Farhana Akter Panna, 23, Sabuj, 20, Maruf , 20, Sabbir, 20, Mokbul, 35, Sonam Uddin, 50, Foysal, 25, Hazrat Ali, 50 and another unknown man nearly aged 35.

They were admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), confirmed Bachchu Mia, Sub-Isnpector (SI) of DMCH police outpost.

He, however, could not tell the reason of blasting the gas cylinder.

"Of the victims, Sabuj and Maruf used to work at shop of the capital's Manda area, Panna is a BBA student of Dhanmondi Model College, Sonam Uddin and the unknown male are rickshaw pullers, the others could not be ascertained immediately," he added.

Partha Sankar Pal, resident surgeon of DMCH Burn Unit, said, "Of the victims, five are in critical state."
