90 killed in crossfire: ASK

Staff Correspondent: A total of 90 people were killed in crossfire or custody of law enforcement agencies across the country in the last six months.

Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK), a legal aid and human rights organisation, came up with the information in a press release on Friday.

The ASK prepared a report regarding this based on media reports from this year’s January to June 30.

The report published in this regard showed that 46 people were killed in crossfire with police, 13 with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and eight with Detective Branch (DB) of police.

The rest of them were killed in torture and firing by the law enforcers, the report said.

A total of 37 people were killed and 2,570 people were injured in political clashes in the first half of the current year, the report added.

Total 22 people died in mass beating while 53 journalists faced tortures, harassment, threats and obstruction for professional duties, according to the report.

Moreover, a total of 280 women were raped while 16 of them were killed after rape, according to the ASK report.

Five of the rape victims committed suicide since January this year while 39 women faced rape attempts in the country.
