ABT man Sabur remanded in Avijit Roy murder case

Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court has placed member of operation wing of Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) Sabur alias Razu alias Saad on a four-day remand in the murder case of writer and blogger Avijit Roy.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yeasir Ahsan Chowdhury passed the order after hearing in the case on Sunday.

Monirul Islam, Inspector of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC), also Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, filed a petition with the court seeking a 10-day remand for Sabur on April 2.

Sabur was arrested in a case filed with the capital’s Mohammadpur Police Station on November 2, 2015. Since, he has been behind the bar.

 Avijit Roy, son of Ajoy Roy, a former Professor of the Physics Department of Dhaka University and founder of Muktamona Blog, was killed and his wife Rafida Afrin Banya injured in an attack near the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) on the university campus on February 26, 2015. They came under the attack when they came out of Ekushe Boi mela.

Later, Avijit’s father Dr Ajoy Roy lodged the murder case with Shahbagh Police Station in the capital.
