ACC gets proof over bribery at Civil Surgeon office

Staff Correspondent: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has uncovered the compulsory bribery transitions for health certificate at Dhaka Civil Surgeon office.

A team of ACC on Wednesday conducted an immediate drive at the Civil Surgeon office in the capital’s Azimpur on allegations found on its hotline 106 and got proof of the bribery.

ACC’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed the news to risingbd.

He said, “Officers of the Civil Surgeon office confessed to the ACC team that they used to take the bribery of Tk 300 to Tk 1,000 from job seekers for providing every health certificate.”

“During the drive, the ACC team distributed anti-corruption leaflets containing its hotline number 106 among the attending job seekers who went there for health certificates,” he added.

Mohammad Munir Chowdhury, ACC director general (administration), also coordinator of enforcement drives, said, “The corruption practice is going on at the Civil Surgeon office for long days. But tendency of bribery and corruption was totally prevented after today’s (Wednesday) operation. A trap team is monitoring the office to catch the briber incidents at red handed.”
