ACC to send recommendation against 522 teachers to ministry

Staff Correspondent: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is set to forward the final recommendations for transferring 522 teachers of the city’s 24 renowned government schools to the education ministry in the current week.

The teachers who have long been working at the institutions are allegedly involved in coaching business, according to a probe report prepared by the ACC.

According to the probe report of the Commission, the teachers have been providing teaching at their respective schools for 10-33 years. As they are working at the same schools for a long time, they are getting involved in coaching business and earning money violating the government rules.

As per the government rules, a teacher can stay in a school for three years and then he or she will be transferred to another school, ACC spokesman Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said.

The reasons behind the teachers’ longer stay in the same school are political pressure, lobbying and illegal exchange of money, the probe report mentioned.

It also found that some teachers are staying in same schools by giving bribe to administration officers so that they can earn money from coaching and private tuition.

As the teachers work in the same schools for a longer period, they establish coaching centres surrounding their respective schools and force their students to join their coaching centres, according to the report.

On November 1, a five-member ACC probe team, led by its director Joynal Abedin Shebly, submitted its report on the city’s coaching centres to ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmood.

Asked, ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmood told risingbd.com that we are yet to forward the final recommendations for transferring 522 teachers of the city’s 24 renowned government schools to the education ministry but those will be forwarded in the current week.
