ACC wants life term for Khaleda Zia

Staff Correspondent: Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sought life term imprisonment for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia increasing the five-year sentence awarded in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

Meanwhile, the state side demanded that the five-year sentence awarded by the trial court be upheld.

The lawyers for the ACC and state side made their urges in the High Court bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mustafizur Rahman during the appeal hearing in the case on Tuesday.

Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan for the ACC and Attorney General Mahbubey Alam for the state side placed their arguments.

Meanwhile, the court turned down the petition appealed by Khaleda’s lawyer seeking time.

The Dhaka Special Court-5 convicted the former Prime Minister and BNP chairperson and sentenced her to five years' imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

She was then sent to the old central jail at Nazimuddin Road in the city on February 8.
