AG to give opinion over FF quota

Staff Correspondent: The committee formed over the quota system has asked Attorney General (AG) Mahbubey Alam for his opinion on obligation of the existing 30 percent quota for the Freedom Fighters (FF) in the civil service.

AG confirmed the news to the reporters on Friday morning.

He said, “I received a letter in this regard two or three days ago. It asked me to give opinion over the 30 percent quota for the Freedom Fighters. I will give my opinion within Monday.”

However, Mohammad Saifur Rahman, Special Officer of the Supreme Court (SC) said that they (SC administration) did not yet receive any letter in this connection.

Earlier on August 12, cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said, “The seven-member committee formed over quota system has recommended to abolish the quota system as much as possible giving priority on merits in the government jobs. But the government will seek opinion from the Supreme Court (SC) over the existing 30 percent quota of Freedom Fighters as there is verdict in this regard.”
