AL picks Atiqul for DNCC by-polls

Staff Correspondent: The ruling Awami League (AL) has picked Atiqul Islam, former president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), to contest the mayoral race in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) by-polls scheduled for February 26.

Awami League Local Government Nomination Board took the final decision through a meeting at the Gonobhaban with Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair on Tuesday evening.

After the meeting, Awami League General Secretary and also Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader announced the name while addressing a press conference there.

Before starting the meeting, Nomination Board's president Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina interviewed all 18 aspirants for the by-polls.
