Abdul Jabbar no more

Staff Correspondent: Eminent singer and freedom fighter Abdul Jabbar is no more.

The noted singer breathed his last around 8.30am at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in the city.

He was 79 years.

BSMMU Director Brigadier General Md Abdullah-Al-Harun confirmed the matter to risingbd.com.

He was undergoing treatment at the hospital for last one month with several health problems including irregularities at liver, kidney and heart.


Jabbar inspired people through her songs in Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra during the Liberation War in 1971.

He was awarded Bangabandhu Padak (1973), Ekushey Padak (1980), Swadhinata Padak (1996) and different national and international awards.

Jabbar was born in Kushtia. He first took music lessons from Ustad Osman Gani and Ustad Lutful Haque.

He became an enlisted singer of radio in 1958 and television in 1964.
