Staff Correspondent: Amid the mounting student protests over the deaths of two students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin School and College at Kurmitola on Ariport Road in a road accident on July 29 in the capital, the education ministry announced to keep all educational institutions shut for tomorrow for the sake of security of students and others.

Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Prof Md Mahbubur Rahman confirmed this to risingbd.com on Wednesday night.

“In an emergency meeting held this afternoon, we have taken a decision to keep all the educational institutions closed on Thursday for the sake of security of students and others,” he said.

Students took to the streets for the 4th consecutive day on Wednesday demanding punishment of those responsible for Sunday's road accident and resignation of the shipping minister for his comments on the accident as the protest spread outside Dhaka.

The students blocked roads in the capital and a number of districts to press home their demands, causing suffering to commuters.

Earlier on Sunday (July 29), two students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin School and College -- Diya Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib -- were killed as a Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan bus ploughed through some students in front of Kurmitola General Hospital at Airport Road.

A case was filed with Cantonment Police Station on Sunday night over the incident.

Following this, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two drivers and two helpers of three buses from different parts of the capital on Monday.
