Annisul Huq laid to eternal rest

Staff Correspondent: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq was laid to eternal rest at Banani Graveyard following his last namaj-e-janaza at Army Stadium in Dhaka after Asr prayers on Saturday.

The body was taken to Army Stadium around 3:10pm where thousands of people paid tributes to him.

On behalf of president Abdul Hamid, military secretary major general Sarwar Hossain, on behalf of the prime minister, military secretary major general Mia Mohammad Joynul Abedin, on behalf of speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, captain Mushtaq Ahmed, on behalf of ruling Bangladesh Awami League party its general secretary Obaidul Quader, Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sayeed Khokon and deputy leader in parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury paid their respects to Annisul.

Earlier, a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight, carrying the body of the businessman-turned-politician, landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 12:45pm.

Annisul’s younger brother and Chief of Army Staff General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq received the body at the airport.

From the airport, the body was taken to his Banani residence.

Mr Huq breathed his last at 10:30pm Bangladesh time at Wellington Hospital at the age of 65. His wife Rubana Huq, two daughters and his only son were at his side.

He was admitted to National Neuroscience Hospital on August 13 after he became sick due to various neurological problems (dizziness and lack of balance) during his London visit, which started on July 29.
