Anti-drug drive: 27,000 cases filed, 35,000 arrested

Parliament Correspondent: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said 35,312 people were arrested in 27,340 cases filed (till March, 2018) during the ongoing anti-drug drive across the country.

1,289 people were sentenced to different terms of imprisonment through mobile courts during the anti-drug operation, the Minister added.

Home Minister said this in the parliament session while replying to a question raised by lawmaker Didarul Alam on Thursday.

The Minister said despite limitations, all law enforcement agencies are working relentlessly to curb the drugs. The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC), Police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) filed 1,06,636 cases filed against 1,32,833 drug peddlers in 2017. Besides, 4,0079,443 pieces of Yaba tablets along with other drug substances were seized during this period.

Three bi-lateral meetings were held with India and Myanmar to prevent Yaba smuggling across the border. Both the countries were requested to take steps against drug traders after handing over lists of peddlers and secret factories of drug manufacturing of the countries.
