Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court has cleared cricketer Arafat Sunny and his mother in connection with a case filed over torturing a woman, who claimed to be his wife, for dowry.

Judge Tabassum Islam of the Fourth Special Tribunal for Prevention of Women and Children Repression passed the order in presence of Sunny and his mother after scrutinising the case dockets and other relevant documents of the case on Thursday.

Earlier on August 17, Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Yahiya of Mohammadpur Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the report stating the charges brought against Sunny and his mother were not proved.

The final investigation report said the plaintiff filed the case by presenting false information, so the report asked to acquit the accused. Moreover, the investigators did not find any evidence of marriage between Arafat Sunny and the plaintiff.

Police did not also find any evidence or witness for the allegation brought against Nargis Sultana, mother of Sunny that she along with other people beat the plaintiff.

Earlier on February 1, Nasrin Sultana, claimed to be the wife of Arafat Sunny, filed case against Sunny and his mother with the tribunal.
