Aritree suicide: 3 teachers including principal suspended

Staff Correspondent: Three teachers including Viqarunnisa Noon School and College Principal Naznin Ferdous have been suspended over the suicide of schoolgirl Aritree Adhikari.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid disclosed the decision at a press conference at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

The education ministry also took a decision to cancel MPO of the three teachers.

The two other suspended teachers are morning shift in-charge Jinat Akhtar and class teacher Hasna Hena.

On Tuesday, the Education Ministry formed the three-member probe committee led by Prof Mohammad Yusuf, director of Dhaka Regional Education office, to submit its report within three days.

However, the committee has finalised its report working over day and night, the minister said.

“The probe body has found that three teachers had threatened the victim’s parents and behaved with them rudely when they came to meet them,” he said.

A case has been filed against three teachers including the principal.

Victim’s father Dilip Adhikari filed the case with Paltan Police Station on Tuesday night accusing the trio of provoking Aritee to committing suicide.

Aritree Adhikari, a Class-IX student, reportedly committed suicide at their Shantinagar residence in the city on Monday after allegedly being rebuked by teachers for using mobile phone during examination.
