Secretariat Correspondent: Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said an arrest order has been made against those who will be found hoarding rice illegally in their godowns.

The government has already launched drive against illegal hoarding of rice, he said.

The minister made the statements while talking to reporters after a meeting with leaders of Bangladesh Auto Rice Mill Owners' Association in his ministry on Sunday.

The price of rice is increasing for the hoarders who are hoarding rice illegally, he said adding that deputy commissioners have been asked to take action against illegal hoarders of rice.

“I will talk to deputy commissioners of all districts over the illegal hoarding of rice. Drive will be conducted where godown for rice will be found. Mill owners will be arrested immediately if they are found involved in hoarding rice illegally,” the minister added.

A section of unscrupulous traders have spread rumours over rice crisis in the market by creating a syndicate. They are conspiring to trap the government in trouble, he said.
