Arrest warrant issued against Arafat Sunny

Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court has issued arrest warrant against cricketer Arafat Sunny in a dowry case filed by a woman claimed to be his wife.

Earlier, the court also formed charges against him to start trial officially in the case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain Tipu passed the order on Sunday.

Muraduzzaman, lawyer of Arafat Sunny, said, "The case was scheduled for charge hearing today (Sunday). But the accused Arafat Sunny could not appear before the court as he has been affected by Chikungunya."

"A petition was filed seeking time, but the court rejected it and ordered to form charges after issuing arrest warrant against him," he added.

Nasrin Sultana, whom sunny married secretly, filed the lawsuit on January 23 alleging that he demanded Tk 20 lakh from her as dowry.

Earlier, she also lodged a case against him under Information and Communication Technology Act (ICT Act) that put Sunny behind bars. Later, he got bail in the case.
