'Attack on Zafar Iqbal to mislead young generation'

Staff Correspondent: Civil Society has brought out a procession and held a rally in protest of attacking on the renowned writer Professor Dr Zafar Iqbal.

The procession started from the capital's Shahbag on Sunday afternoon. It also ended at the same place from where it started via TSC and Paribag intersection and concluded with a brief rally.

Gonojagoron Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarkar led the programme.

The attack was carried out on the eminent writer to mislead the young generation, speakers commented in the rally.

Imran H Sarkar told in his opening speech that the attackers believe themselves more stronger as no justice was made after the murder of free thought people in past. They are now finding more scopes and killing people of free thoughts one after another.

He also demanded punishment for the culprits after bringing them to the justice.

Human rights activist Sultana Kamal said, "We know why Zafat Iqbal is popular. He is loved by young generation. He is man who always speaks for the Liberation War and non-communal cognition. His consciousness spread among the youths. And that's why, he came under attack to mislead the young generation."

"Those who want to stifle to free thought people must be brought under law. It is not enough to arrest the lone attacker. People who are behind the attack must have to be traced out," She added.

Noted actor-director-playwright Mamunur Rashid said, "Zafar Iqbal came under attack due to void of justice."

Writer and publisher Robin Ahsan said, "Zafar Iqbal accompanied us when we took street demanding justice. Now he came under attack from behind. Foreign and fanatic forces were involved behind the attack."

Speakers also demanded resignation of Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.

Rights activist Khushi Kabir and Chhatra Union president GM Jilani Shuvo among others spoke in the rally.
