Attack on police unexpected: DMP Commissioner

Staff Correspondent: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said that attack carried out on police suddenly in front of BNP’s central office in the capital’s Nayapaltan was planned. Two police van were torched while 25 cops including 5 officers were injured in the attack.

DMP Commissioner told this to the reporters at his office on Thursday noon.

He said, “The attack on police was unexpected. BNP’s nomination papers’ sale and submission had been going on with disciplines and in festive mood for long seven days.”

“On Wednesday, nomination aspirants took streets bringing out massive processions and showdowns which halted traffics at Kakrail and Fakhirapool in the capital. That’s why duty police requested BNP men to make free a part of the roads,” he added.

Asaduzzaman Mia said, “In the meantime, a central of the party had been marching a long procession towards BNP office. Then an altercation was ensued between cops and the party men. At one stage, BNP leaders and activists made attack on the law enforcers suddenly,” he said.

The commissioner said, “Three case were filed over the incident and 60 people were arrested from the spot. Others will be held very soon.”
