Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader
Staff Correspondent: The allegations brought to the Padma bridge project by the World Bank (WB) have been rejected by a court in Canada. “Now I’m awaiting the response from the World Bank over the issue,” Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said.
The minister said this while addressing a function at Krishibid Institution Auditorium at Khamarbari in the capital on Monday.
“Let’s see what the World Bank says against this. I’m waiting for the reply from the World Bank,” Quader said.
Quader, also the Awami League general secretary, said, “World Bank has brought corruption allegation against the Padma bridge project. We were bitterly insulted. We were disappointed at this. Many have scolded us. Several newspapers hugely criticised us. Criticism over the issue was also highly reflected on the TV. Today it is proved that the work of the Padma bridge project started in a transparent way and it will complete by the end of 2018 following the same way.
Today Padma bridge is a proof of our ability. It is an honour to the entire world. Challenging the World Bank, we said that the Padma bridge will be built by our own fund and we are doing this, the minister added.
