B Chy urges EC to defer polls to Dec 30

Senior Correspondent: Juktafront Chairman Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury has urged the Election Commission (EC) to defer 11th general polls to December 30 from December 23.

He also urged to defer the dates of submitting nomination papers to November 26 from November 19, scrutinizing papers to November 29 from November 22 and withdrawal papers to December 6 from November 29.

Former president, also chairman of Bikalpadhara Bangladesh, came up with the demands on Thursday night, hours after the EC announced schedule for the polls.

He said, “We were deeply monitoring the schedule announcement for the 11th parliamentary election. But in overall consideration, time for submitting nomination papers seems very short. All the activities like submitting nomination papers, scrutinsing these and withdrawal of candidature will be so tough in line with the schedule announced by the EC.”

“We think, the dates of election and others concerned should be defer to help for selecting honest and civil candidates for the sake of holding a fair election in the country,” he added.
