'BB heist: report after decision on rest of money'

Special Correspondent: Finance Minister AMA Muhith said that the probe report on Bangladesh Bank heist will be published after getting final decision on rest of the stolen money.

The Minister made the opinion while addressing media today after meeting with a British delegation and Resident Representative for the World Bank Group in Dhaka.

He said, the government will not publish the investigation report on the Bangladesh Bank reserve heist until it resolves the problems over bringing back the money from Philippines’ Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC).

In reply to a question, he said the report will be published later.

“I don’t want anyone to benefit from the probe report. The RCBC cannot show off with the stolen money. The money must have to be returned to whom it belongs,”

Cyber criminals tried to steal nearly $1 billion from the Bangladesh Bank in February, one of the biggest bank frauds ever.

The hackers managed to transfer $81 million via an account at the New York Federal Reserve to four accounts in fake names at a branch of Rizal Commercial Banking Corp in the Philippines.

Most of the money was laundered through Philippine casinos and only about $15 million was recovered from a gaming junket operator and returned to Bangladesh.
