BB to file lawsuit over reserve heist: Muhith

Special Correspondent: Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said that Bangladesh Bank (BB) will lodge a lawsuit against the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the Manila-based Rizal Commercial Banking Corp (RCBC) over reserve heist. Preparations in this regard are running.

The Minister told this to the reporters at the Secretariat after a meeting with the cabinet committee on purchase on Wednesday.

Muhith said, “The time is coming to an end. Lawsuit can be filed till January 15. So, BB is working in this regard seriously.”

“It needs assistance from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Discussions have already been made with them,” he added.

Mentionable, on February 4, 2016, hackers broke into the BB's systems and generated 70 fake payment orders for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York to draw about $1.94 billion.
