BFSA chairman seeks unconditional apology

Staff Correspondent: Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) Chairman Mahfuzul Haque has appeared before the High Court and sought unconditional apology over failure in withdrawing 52 banned food items from the market.

Later, the court released him from contempt of court rule and directed to continue drive against adulterated food items all the year round.

The HC bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik Al-Jalil passed the exemption order on Sunday.

Senior lawyers Kamal Ul Alam and AM Amin Uddin stood for the BFSA chairman in the courtroom.

Earlier on May 23, the High Court summoned the chairman of BFSA to appear before the court on June 16, and provide an explanation for why he did not recall the products.

BSTI released their report on May 2. It found 52 food items to be substandard and/or adulterated, out of 406 food items in 27 categories that it tested.
