BGMEA’s daylong job fair Saturday

Economic Reporter:  Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) will organise a daylong job fair at International Conference Centre, Bashundhara in the city on Saturday.

BGMEA President Siddiqur Rahman announced the details at a press briefing held at the trade body's headquarters in the city on Thursday.

He said Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed will inaugurate the career fair in the morning while State Minister for Labour Mujibul Haque Chunnu will also be present in the inaugural session.

The BGMEA chief said the Finance Ministry took up the SEIP project in partnership with nine trade bodies and five public and private organisations to create 260,000 skilled manpower across the country by 2018.About 40 garment factory owners will participate in the fair to pick their required workers and executives from about 1000 jobseekers who have already been trained up by BGMEA under its partnership programme with the government's project "Skill for Employment Investment Programme (SEIP)".

"BGMEA-SIEP project has already provided training to 20,000 people of which about 15,000 are operators and 5,000 are mid-level executive for garment factories. Of them, some 10,000 trainees have already got jobs in garment factories," he said.
