BJMC GM sent to jail

Staff Correspondent: Md Jahangir Hossain, General Manager (GM) of Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC), has been sent to jail in a graft case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Kamrul Islam passed the order on Sunday.

Earlier, Shafiullah, assistant director of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), produced Jahangir Hossain before the court and sought permission to confine him in jail until the investigation ends in the case.

On 12 December, 2016, the national anti-graft agency filed a case against the jute mills official and others with Khalishpur police station in Khulna for allegedly swindling out money from Platinum Jubilee Jute Mills of Khalishpur.

According to the case statement, when Jahangir Hossain worked in Platinum Jubilee Jute Mills during 2012-2014, he in collusion with others misappropriated about 1,1117 metric tonnes of processors (jute and jute products) worth around Tk 7.44 crore from the jute mills.
