BNP rally begins with rain and conditions

Senior Correspondent: The rally of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has begun in front of the party’s Nayapaltan central office with 23 conditions imposed by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) amid light rain.

The prescheduled rally demanding the party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s advanced treatment and release from jail started through reciting verses from the holy Quran around 3:00pm on Friday after nearly two and a half year.

Earlier, BNP held a rally in Dhaka city January 5, 2016.

Though the rally began at 3:00pm, no standing committee member of the party and its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam were not seen at the venue at that time.

However, several top leaders of the party attended the rally.

Meanwhile, the rally was disrupted by light rain just after a while of launching it. A huge number of leaders and activists of the party crowded the ground.

Though BNP got permission to arrange a rally in the city after two and a half-year, DMP imposed 23 conditions on it which include the programme must be ended within 5:00pm after launching since 2:00pm. It means the party was allowed to hold the rally just for three hours.

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told risingbd that they could not take preparations well for the rally as hey DMP allowed them at the eleventh hour.

Even then, they tried to take overall preparations as much as possible. The protest rally is being held in every city, district and upazila across the country simultaneously, he added.
