Bail order forgery: 5 get 14 years in jail

Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court sentenced five people including a bench assistant to 14 years’ imprisonment for issuing fake bail orders by fake signature of a judge.

Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman of the Special Judge Court-5 handed down the verdict in presence of three convicts on Wednesday.

The court also fined them Tk10,000 each, in default of which they will have to serve a month more in jail.

The convicts are bench assistant Moslehuddin Bhuyain, peon Sheikh Md Nayeem and three other clerks of the court (umedar) Md Ismail, Md Alamgir and Jahangir.

Of the convicts, Alamgir and Jahangir are absconding while the three others are in jail.

On July 12, 2015, Obaidul Karim Akando, an official of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court, filed a case accusing the five staffs with Kotwali police station for allegedly issuing fake bail orders by forging the signature of judge Shamsunnahar Begum.

All the 106 accused of 74 criminal cases, pending with the court, were released from prison following the fake bail orders.
