Banani double rape: Shafat’s driver gets bail

Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court has granted bail to Billal Hossain, driver of Shafat Ahmed, in the Banani double rape case.

Shafat Ahmed, son of Apan Jewellers’ owner Dildar Ahmed, is the prime accused in the case.

Judge Md Shafiul Azam of the Second Special Tribunal for Prevention of Women and Children Repression in Dhaka granted the bail on Thursday.

Ali Akbar, Prosecutor of the court, said, “Hearing on bail was held on Wednesday. The court came up with the order on Thursday.”

With this, two accused in the case secured bails as Shafat’s body guard Rahmat Ali was granted bail in January.

On May 6, 2017, a university student filed the case with Banani Police Station accusing Shafat, Sakif and three others bringing allegation of rape against them.

According to the case statement, two youth including Shafat raped the plaintiff and another university girl on March 28 last year at a birthday party at The Raintree Dhaka at Banani while three others assisted them.
