Banani rape case: Safat, Sakif arrested

Staff Correspondent: Police arrested the two main accused Safat Ahmed and Sadman Sakif, from Sylhet over Banani rape case.

Police Headquarters Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Soheli Ferdous confirmed the matter to risingbd.com. on Thursday night.

Following the direction of IGP AKM Shahidul Haque, a police team arrested the accused rapists around 9:00pm.

Since the rape incident came to the fore, different law enforcement agencies, including Detective Branch (DB) and Rapid Action Battalion, started 'shadow' investigation into it alongside thana police.

Earlier, the two private university girls who were raped allegedly by the two youths in an upscale hotel in the capital's Banani area around one a half month ago gave their judicial statements before a court in Dhaka.

On May 6, one of the rape victims filed a case with Banani Police Station accusing five people.

Of the accused, Shafat Ahmed, 26, and Nayem Ashraf, 30, were sued for raping the two female university students while Sadman Shafiq, 24, Shafat's driver Billal, 26, and his unnamed bodyguard for abetting in the crime.
