Bangladesh exports medicines to 145 countries

K M A Hasnath: Medicine sector has become one of the most promising industries in Bangladesh satisfying the 98 percent domestic demand. Bangladeshi medicines are now being exported to 145 countries including United States.

The average growth of medicine export is 15 percent. The demand of Bangladeshi medicine is increasing across the globe day by day.

According to a statistic of Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), pharmaceutical industry earned 60 million US dollar in 2012-13 fiscal year, 70 million USD in 2013-14 fiscal, 73 million USD in 2014-15, 82 million USD in 2015-16 fiscal year and 96.60 million USD in 2017-18 fiscal year.



The concerned people in the sector are expecting that Bangladesh would earn five billion US dollar exporting medicine by 2021.

The medicine industry has been brought under special facilities in the budget of 2018-2019 fiscal year. The government is providing 25 percent incentives in medicine sector. Besides, importers will get 20 percent duty discount on import of raw materials.
