Imrul’s ton takes Bangladesh to 271

Sports Desk: Bangladesh set a target of 272 runs in 50 overs in the opening one-day international (ODI) of a three-match series against Zimbabwe at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Sunday.

Imrul Kayes's blinding 144 off 140 deliveries pulled Bangladesh out of trouble as the Tigers recovered after early collapse in the middle of the innings to post a strong total on the board. It is the third ODI ton in his career. Imrul struck 13 fours and six sixes during his knock.

All-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin, who also played an important innings, scored 50 off 69 balls.

Bangladesh lost couple of quick wickets following the 71-run stand between Mithun Ali and Imrul Kayes. Kyle Jarvis picked up three wickets -- Mithun and Mahmudullah Riyad in the same over, before taking the scalp of Mehidy Hasan Miraz on the next over.

However, Bangladesh managed to score 271 runs from 50 overs at the loss of eight wickets.

Earlier Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza won the toss and elected to bat first in the opening ODI against Zimbabwe.
