Bangladesh slips down in 2018 Happiness report

International Desk: Bangladesh slipped five notches down, according to World Happiness Report 2018 released on Wednesday.

Bangladesh is ranked 115th happiest country, according to the report.

Despite the slipping down in the 2018 Happiness report, Bangladesh is still happier than Indians and Sri Lankans.

Among 156 countries, Sri Lanka and India have been ranked 116th and 133rd positions respectively. Bangladesh was ranked 110th in the 2017 Happiness report.

Finland is the happiest place on earth, says the report prepared by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), a global initiative launched by the United Nations in 2012. Norway and Denmark positioned the second and third respectively.

This year, Iceland, Switzerland, Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand, Sweden and Australia rounded out the other top ten countries.

The report ranks countries on six key variables that support well-being, income, freedom, trust, healthy life expectancy, social support and generosity.

Syria, Rwanda, Yemen, Tanzania, South Sudan, Central African Republic and Burundi were at the bottom.

This report is the sixth to come out since 2012.

Since 2013, the United Nations has been celebrating the International Day of Happiness on March 20 as a way to recognise the importance of happiness in the lives of people around the world.
