Bangladesh to import wheat from Russia

KMA Hasnat: The government has taken initiatives to import wheat from Russia under the government to government (G2G) agreement in bid to stable the ongoing food crisis.

Food ministry sources said that the proposal would be sent to the meeting table of cabinet committee on purchases on Thursday.

The government's food grain procurement target failed due to recent flood in north-eastern region of the country. Besides, the government provided food grains as relief to the flood affected people. As a result, there is food crisis in the country now.  

The Ministry of Food will start procurement of the wheat from September next and will complete it by October, 2017.

Russian government will supply the wheat on October, 2017. Bangladesh will receive the food grains from Chittagong and Mongla ports.
