Bangladesh win ODI series against Zimbabwe

Sports Correspondent, From Chattogram: Bangladesh have won One-Day International (ODI) series against visiting Zimbabwe, with remaining a match left of the three-match series.

Tigers beat the visitors by 7 wickets in the second ODI to clinch the series at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Cricket Stadium in Chattogram on Wednesday (October 24).

Earlier, the boys in green and red routed Zimbabwe by 28 runs in the first ODI of the series at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka on October 21.

On Wednesday, Bangladesh bowlers restricted Zimbabwe to 246 runs for 7 wickets in the allotted 50 overs in the second match after the skipper Mashrafe Mortaza won the toss and opted to bowl first.

In chase, Bangladesh reached the target easily, thanks to brilliant innings of both openers Liton Das (83) and Imrul Kayes (90). The opening-pair hit the most important pertnership of 148 runs.

Bangladesh scored 250 runs losing three wickets with remaining 35 balls left.

Liton smashed his 83-run innings off 77 balls with 12 fours and a six while Kayes 90 runs from 111 balls with 7 fours.

However, thirty-year-old Fazle Mahmud Rabbi, who made duck in his debut against Zimbabwe in the first match, also hit another duck.

Bangladesh’s wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim scored 40 runs off 52 balls which includes 2 fours and a six.

Mohammad Mithun hit 24 runs from 21 balls with 2 fours and a six.

For Zimbabwe, right-arm offbreak bowler Sikandar Raza alone smashed 3 wickets for 43 runs in 10 overs with a maiden.

Earlier, Zimbabwe’s wicket-keeper batsman Brendan Taylor smashed a brilliant score of 75 runs off 73 balls which includes 9 fours and a six.

Sikandar Raza missed fifty just for a run. He scored 49 runs from 61 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes.

Sean Williams bagged 47 runs off 76 balls with two fours while opener Cephas Zhuwao 20 runs fro 27 balls with a four and a six.

Another opener and skipper Hamilton Masakadza managed to score 14 runs from 18 balls with 2 fours while Peter Moor bagged 17 runs off 20 balls with 2 fours.

For Bangladesh, Mohammad Saifuddin alone bagged 3 wickets for 45 runs in 10 overs with a maiden while Mashrafe, Mustafizur Rahman, Mehidy Hasan and Mahmudullah shared a wicket.
