'Be vocal for mounting pressure on Myanmar'

Staff Correspondent, from Jatiya Sangsad: Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury urged Rotary International to be vocal for mounting pressure on Myanmar in the light of five-point proposal of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina over Rohingya issue.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury made the call while visiting Chairman of Board of Trustees of Rotary International Paul A. Netzel paid a courtesy call to her at her office on Thursday.

The Speaker said Rohingyas who were forced to leave the Rakhine state of Myanmar are extremely deprived of fundamental rights. They are the poorest section of the country. When they became shelterless after being forced to leave their houses, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina introduced a new horizon of humanity, giving the persecuted Rohingyas shelter to Bangladesh.

She said the Rotary International can play an important role in the permanent repatriation of the persecuted Rohingyas to their country.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin urged the Rotary International to extend its helping hand towards the Rohingyas who are now leading a very miserable life.
