Biman’s first Dreamliner ‘Akashbina’ arrives today

Staff Correspondent: Akashbina, fourth-generation Boeing Dreamliner 787 joined the fleet of Biman Bangladesh Airlines today.

The aircraft landed at Dhaka Airport around 5:00pm on Sunday from USA.

Touted in as the fifteenth aircraft of National flag carrier Biman’s fleet, the newest entrant is slated to usher in a new generation of aircraft.

On Sunday, a team of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, led by its chairman of the board of directors Air Marshal (retd) Enamul Bari, went to Boeing Company's Everett Delivery and Operation Center in Seattle, Washington, US to bring the airplane.

Biman spokesperson Shakil Meraz said Biman Bangladesh Airlines managing director and CEO A M Mosaddique Ahmed and top officials welcomed the aircraft by water cannon salute.

He also said that the prime minister is scheduled to inaugurate the first flight of the Dreamliner on September 1, slated to fly to Kuala Lumpur.

The aircraft will initially be used to operate flights from Dhaka to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

It will provide its passengers with wifi services at a height of 43,000 feet, allowing passengers to browse the internet or connect with their friends and family at any end of the world.

The aircraft will also have in-flight entertainment system through which passengers will be able to enjoy classics or blockbuster movies, music of different genres, and video games and livestreaming of nine world-famous television channels. It will also provide facilities for online shopping, with a credit card or cash payment allowed on the on-board duty-free shop.

The Boeing 787-8, designed to be 20 percent fuel efficient, has a total of 271 seats with 24 in business class and 247 in economy class.
