Bring those behind militancy to justice

A Militant hideout has been identified again in the capital. This time, the hideout was traced at Darussalam road area in the capital's Mirpur. According to the news reports, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) cordoned off a six-storey building at the Darussalam road area on Monday night. After knowing the whereabouts of militant Abdullah and his associates there, RAB members asked them to surrender. The RAB members suspended their operation at the building on assurance that the militants will surrender.

But heavy gunshots and explosions were heard inside the building at dead of night on Tuesday. Seven bodies were found inside the building after a search carried out by the law enforcers. RAB director general said the bodies were burnt in such a way that no one could trace them easily. It was said that four RAB personnel were hit by splinters in the blasts.

After heavy explosions in Dhaka's Mirpur and recovery of drone in Tangail, it is very clear that militants have gone berserk. RAB members arrested two suspected members of Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from a house in Elenga municipality under Kalihati upazila of the district early Monday. They also recovered a drone, bomb making materials and several machetes and Chinese axes from the house.

Based on information gleaned from the two suspected JMB members, RAB members cordoned off the six-storey building at the Darussalam road area at mid night on Monday and carried out a raid there. RAB's Director General Benazir Ahmed informed media that around seven persons with a big stash of explosives are inside the building. Among the seven persons are suspected militant Abdullah, his two wives, two children and two associates.

The hideout was being used as a training camp for militants and the camp was headed by Abdullah. RAB said that powerful improvised explosive device (IED) was found inside the hideout. That militants have lethal weapons has been clear from this incident. RAB added that Sarowar Jahan, Tamim Chowdhury and Sohel Mahfuj alias hatkata Mahfuj who are the chiefs of a portion of JMB have spent their night at this hideout. They received training secretly from here.

Law enforcers have found militant dens at different places in the country including the capital Dhaka after the terrible incident like Holey Artisan attack in Gulshan. Law enforcement agencies become active after this incident. As a result, they have earned major breakthroughs in preventing militancy. But it could also be said that militants are not sitting idly which is very clear from Mirpur raid. The point which is to be noted here is the tendency of suicide blast among the militants due to the massive activity of law enforcers. The militants may raise their heads visibly if the law and order in the country is relaxed. So, the law enforcers should be aware of this. For this activity of the intelligence agency needs to be strengthened.

Bangladesh is a peaceful country and its people are peace loving. It can never be expected that this country will turn into a den of militants and terrorists. We demand that militancy be uprooted forever from the country. Alongside preventing militancy, it is necessary to expose how the militants are getting funds, arms, bombs and bomb-making materials and who are behind the attack. It is possible to reduce the militant activity largely if these are unveiled. We believe that those who are behind the militant attacks should be brought to justice. Militancy must be uprooted from the country to protect the country and nation. There is no alternative to this.
