CJ wants journalists at courtroom

Staff Correspondent: Chief Justice (CJ) Syed Mahmud Hossain underscored the need for allowing journalists to be at the courtroom for transparency of the judiciary.

The CJ came up with the remark after inaugurating the office of Law Reporters’ Forum (LRF) at the Supreme Court Bar Association Bhaban on Wednesday.

Sharing his experience gathered in a seminar on journalism on court premises in Turkey, the Chief Justice said, “…there was a topic on allowing journalists at courtroom for transparency of the judiciary. So, it’s now internationally established that the entry of journalists into courtroom and court premises will have to be ensured.”

Pointing to LRF members, the CJ said, “I’m so pleased to see that you’ve got a place to sit in as I gave my words to do it.”

The Chief Justice also unveiled the cover of the annual publication of the forum.

Supreme Court Bar Association President Advocate Zainul Abedin, Supreme Court's Registrar General Dr Md Zakir Hossain and others attended the inaugural ceremony.
