'CJ's resignation letter reaches Bangabhaban'

Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha

Staff Correspondent: "Resignation letter of Chief Justice (CJ) Surendra Kumar Sinha has reached Bangabhaban," President's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told this to journalists over phone on Saturday noon.

Several news reports earlier claimed that the chief justice, who had gone on leave in the face of huge criticism from the ruling Awami League over his verdict on the 16th amendment decision, had submitted a resignation letter.

On 17 January 2015, Sinha was appointed as the chief justice and his term was supposed to end on January 31, 2018.

On October 13, he left for Australia, where his daughter currently resides, after going on a leave on October 3. His wife joined him a few days later.

The media on Friday came to know that the chief justice had left Australia to visit his other daughter in Canada. Soon after this, news of his resignation spread.
