Cantonment Bill placed in JS

Staff Correspondent:  A bill titled ‘The Cantonment Bill, 2017’ has been placed in the Parliament.

Law Minister Anisul Huq placed the bill in the House on Tuesday and it was sent to the respective parliamentary standing committee for further examination.

The amount of various fines and fees for 43 different subjects, including exceeding the deadline of building construction, violation of traffic rules, begging with distorted organs, carrying arms and firecrackers in the areas under Cantonment Board, have been substantially increased from the ones described in the 90-year-old law.

Under the proposed law, drunkenness, begging, gambling as well as movement keeping uncovered the injuries and distorted organs of the body and openly carrying meat will also be considered as punishable offence.

For such offences, up to Tk 20,000 could be fined.
