Car worth Tk 5 cr left on road with chit

Staff Correspondent: A luxurious car worth Tk 5 crore was left on a road with a chit by its owner to escape drives by Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID).

The number-plate less Toyota Land Cruiser V-8, 4608-CC and Model-2013, was left on Road-112 of Gulshan-1 in the capital around 11:00am on Thursday.

Later, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate seized the car and found a chit in it.

The note found in the car read, “I left the car on road at my own will. But I’m not the importer of the car. I make a kind request to the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate to bring the importer under the purview of law. I’m respectful to the country’s law and I welcome the activities of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate in this regard.”

Director General of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate Shahidul Islam confirmed the news to risingbd.

Earlier on Wednesday, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) seized 11 luxurious cars conducting a drive from Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP), Savar which were allegedly kept there to misuse duty free facility.

The cars have been imported by Department for International Development (DFID) with duty free facility which worth proximately Tk 30 crore, according to the CIID.
