Case filed over student-police clash at Shahbag

Staff Correspondent: A case has been filed with the capital's Shahbag Police Station accusing 1200 unknown people over the clash occurred between police and students of seven colleges recently affiliated with Dhaka University.

Md Mazhar, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Shahbag Police Station, filed the case on Thursday night.

Jafar Ali Biswas, Inspector (Investigation) of the police station, confirmed the news to risingbd on Friday noon.

He said the law suit was filed for allegedly opposing police to perform their duties, attacking on them, attempting to murder them and carrying out terrorist activities.

Meanwhile 13 people who were detained from the spot on Thursday were released on Friday.

"They were primarily released considering humanitarian issues as they are set to participate in examinations. They will be included in the accused list if they were found guilty in the incident," Jafar said.

Students of seven colleges recently affiliated with Dhaka University locked into clash with police at the capital's Shahbag area on Thursday morning as law enforcers opposed them to observe programme demanding seven points, leaving three students injured.

Of them, Titumir student Siddiqur Rahman sustained serious injuries at his eyes.

The agitating students were from Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawrdy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Mohila College, Mirpur Government Bangla College, and Government Titumir College.
