Staff Correspondent: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque said, “The Chawkbazar fire is human-induced incident. Such kind of fire incident could be avoided if business people in the area would abide by the government rules.”
He came up with the remark while talking to journalists after visiting the spot on Thursday.
The NHRC chairman said an investigation will be conducted to find out whether the Chawkbazar fire had been caused due to negligence by those responsible for overseeing people’s safety.
The government rules and court directives prohibit any business activities in a residential area, the NHRC chief told the journalists while visiting the fire-ravaged area in Chawkbazar of Old Dhaka this noon.
The Chalkbazar fire incident took place at around 10.30 pm on Wednesday night that claimed 70 lives, including three children and five women, so far.
