Chhatra League leader arrested in rape case

Staff Correspondent, Barisal: Banaripara Upazila Chhatra League President Md Sumon Hossain Mollah has been arrested in the case of raping a housewife.

He was arrested from Kalibari Road in the city around 8.30am on Sunday. Then he was taken to the DB Police office for interrogation.

The woman's husband who is a Banaripara resident said that he lives in Pahartali area of Chittagong. About 10 months ago he got second marriage. 15 days ago he came to Banaripara with his second wife from Chittagong. But his first wife did not accept the second wife, and he stayed in the houses of the relatives. On Saturday night, they went to the house of Shamsul Howlader at Betal village of the upazila. At that time, Upazila Chhatra League President Sumon claimed Taka one lakh subscription to him. At one stage, Sumon kept them at a club of Betal village. Later Sumon raped her wife in a house. At the time there were four more with him, he said.

Officer-in-Charge  (OC) of Banaripara Police Station Sajjad Hossain said that the victim's husband filed a case against Sumon, Mamun and some unidentified persons. Sumon is the main accused in the case.
