Waterlogging disrupts city life

Staff Correspondent: The dwellers of Dhaka city experienced bitter waterlogging due to heavy and very heavy rain triggered by active monsoon.

Most of roads and streets of the city submerged due to torrential rainfall since Tuesday night to Wednesday noon, throwing the life out of gear.

Filthy water overflowing from roadside drains not only submerged the roads and streets, but also entered houses, shops, shopping malls and other business establishments, damaging furniture and goods.



Torrential rain caused immense sufferings to the residents of the capital Dhaka, as many low-lying areas went under knee- to waist-deep water.

Commuters had difficulty finding transport to their destinations, as vehicles remained stranded on roads for hours. Many waded through waterlogged roads or took rickshaw-vans to travel. But the rickshaw drivers charged higher fares.



The areas that went under water include Mirpur, Kalshi, Mahammadpur, Agargaon, Dhanmondi, Gulshan, Khilkhet, Badda, Rampura, Karwan bazaar,  Panthapath, Tejgaon, Sher-e-Banglanagar, Malibag, Shantinagar, Razarbag, Mouchak, Bijoynagar,  Nayapaltan, Purana Paltan, Ramna, Fakirapul, Motijheel, Kamalapur, Jatrabari, Sayedabad, Basabo, Mugda, Manda, Najim Uddin of old Dhaka and different low-lying areas of the capital Dhaka.

The roads and streets of the areas witnessed severe traffic congestion from the morning.

Office-goer Tanvir Hossain who resided at the capital's Malibag area said, "Though it is usual to rain in the rainy season, but waterlogging caused by poor drainage system put people in immense suffering."
