Close-door meeting, Fakhrul avoids media

Staff Correspondent: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir held an hour-long close-door meeting with lawyers at the Supreme Court on Wednesday noon after the party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s angry response at a court set up in the Old Dhaka central jail.

The meeting started at 2:30pm and ended at 3:30pm at the conference room of SC Bar Building.

However, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul denied to talk to media over the meeting, saying, “I do not want to comment in this regard.”

Some 20 pro-BNP lawyers including Advocate Zainul Abedin, Sanaullah Mia, Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Badruddoza Badal were present in the meeting.

After the meeting, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Advocate Zainul Abedin said, “According to the constitution, no accused, will be broght to the court forcibly, especially any sick captive. But BNP chief Khaleda Zia was forced to appear the court set up in the jail. We discussed the matter in the meeting. The party secretary came to us for suggestion. There is no political motive behind this.”

“We discussed whether the court set up in the court for Khaleda’s trial is legal. We gave our opinion that it is illegal. The next step will be taken through discussion and you will be informed,” he added.
