Cops showed extreme patience: Monirul

Staff Correspondent: Monirul Islam, Chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Police, said that cops had showed extreme patience to face attacks by BNP leaders and activists.

At least 10 police men sustained injuries in the attack, he claimed.

He told this to the reporters at the spot of Nayapaltan in the capital on Wednesday noon.

Monirul said, “Police just told them to move away from the road as the gathering halted vehicular movement, causing imense sufferings to people. Cops did not create any instigation. They were just talking to them. But they made attacks on cops. They threw brickbats to the lawmen, leaving some of them injured.

“Law enforcers fired tear shells to disperse them with an aim of bringing the situation under control. Alongside, cops had kept much patience to face the situation. Even then, they torched two vehicles of law enforcers,” he added.

A clash ensued between police and BNP men at the capital’s Nayapaltan area amid nomination papers sale of the party for the upcoimg 11the general election.
