'Country's power generation capacity increases to 20,000MW'

Staff Correspondent: Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has said that country’s power generation capacity has increased to 20,000MW from only 3,500MW in 2009 due mainly to undertaking and implementation of time-befitting plans and programmes.

She said this when Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) Chairman Monoar Hossain called on her at her JS office on Tuesday.

The Speaker said the incumbent government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is committed to reaching electricity to every house across the country.

BERC members Rahman Murshed, Mahmudul Haque Bhuiyan, Md Abdul Aziz Khan, Md Mizanur Rahman and BERC secretary Rafiqul Islam were present.

BERC chairman and members handed over a copy of BER’s annual report 2017-18 to the Speaker.

Dr Chaudhury praised the BERC for its activities and asked them to be more sincere in their activities to achieve satisfaction of power consumers.

BERC chairman apprised the JS speaker of the future plans and activities.
