Parliament Correspondent: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said people of every walks of life can show their competence in their workplaces and the country sees development when a peaceful and fair democratic environment prevails in it.
She said the development projects we took during our 1996-2001 tenure, they (BNP) ruled out all the projects after they came to power. Many development works can be done if fair and peaceful atmosphere prevails in the country. The country can see a huge development as we continue democratic process through the 2014 election.
The Premier said this in reply to a supplementary question from female member Nurjahan Begum in the parliament during the Prime Minister’s question-answer session with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Choudhury in the chair on Wednesday.
She said womenfolk will be benefited if the ongoing democratic process remain continued. I say- women empowerment, their protection and development all depend on fair election through which a democratic process will continue.
Womenfolk would lose their freedom and may again be subjected to the torture and intimidation without continuation of the Awami League government in future, she added.
In reply to another question of Nurjahan Begum, PM said how a former prime minister, even being a woman, can eat up the money of orphans, which is totally unthinkable.
“For ten years she tried to prove herself innocent in the court, but failed. Then the court has lent her to jail,” she said adding that it’s a shame for whole womenfolk.
